The fate of the appeal

My way to Peer Counseling

When I was three years old, I got a brain tumor. He was not initially recognized, and has almost pulled the trigger of my entire optic nerve. The Operation was an Operation on life and death. I survived, but I am almost blind with some other additional restrictions. This was a massive turning point in our family, a time in which there was not the usual support systems. My parents were brave and trained me as a matter of course to a mainstream school, both in primary school and later the Gymnasium. Only later I learned that this was actually not allowed to usual or even. My teachers were not as open and supportive as I would have used it. Only an eye doctor – a Professor from Tübingen – motivated, and encouraged me to stay so long in the school as possible. An early approach to inclusion?

In this dark time, there was another light that should be the way for my direction in life: my love of magic art. In elementary school, I saw a magician and was so fascinated that I wanted to learn it for yourself. Magic was something I could make. It was only much later I learned that there are virtually anyone on the world, conjures up with such a view limited is played. Conjure is a visual art, it said. What fascinated me and still fascinating is to make the seemingly impossible possible. That was the drive for me: What can I do with my life? Like a magician who invents a new art piece, I asked myself: What is the dream, I could dream, and how I could make it a reality?

As I had fought my way through school, it was completely unclear what would become of me. Would I be able to live alone? I would have a career and be able to live? I'd friendships and relationships can have? All of this seemed unthinkable. However, the attitude of the magician in me drove me to debunk that impossible as only the seemingly impossible and make it possible. This is what I did. I find it just as fascinating to support people to make the seemingly impossible in your life. This is my Mission.

Today I know: It would have been at the time, Peer Counseling, I would have pursued my way to a self-determined life with a lot more courage, Confidence and, above all, faster. I had a competent and trained Peer Counselor at my side, it would have been for me and my parents much easier.

From 2014 – 2018, I was Project Manager the model and research project "Peer Counseling in the Rhineland" the landscape Association. In this time, I developed the basic concept of Peer Counseling training that I develop steadily.

2019 was my concept for a contest against larger companies, and has been with the CODE Best Practice Award excellent. It was also a victory for us, people with a disability.

At the invitation of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, I was A member of a EUTB-Commission. I also have about the certificate as a EUTB-Trainer.

After more than ten years, in which I've continually trained people with different types of Disabilities, I can say: There are always more options of a positive way of life, as the many imagine prior to the training. It is easy and goes by itself? No, it needs Courage, confidence and determination. The Tools you get in the training.
